I Want to Dance Better at Parties
Choreography: Gideon Obarzanek
Music: Jason Sweeney & Cailan Burns
Video Projection: Michaela French
Strikingly original! In 2004, Melbourne choreographer Gideon Obarzanek videotaped five men as they talked about their experiences with dance. The men — a recent widower; a retired engineer; a young clubber; a Rainbow Clogger; and a composer — revealed themselves in surprising ways. The resulting I Want to Dance Better at Parties gets up close and personal with these men as Obarzanek cleverly integrates the original video interviews with crisp choreography in a revealing, intimate work that is dynamic and compelling.
“an insightful meditation on the many things dance can be…” — NY Times
“astute, funny and touching…” — Village Voice
“a multilayered presentation that is both engaging and thought-provoking”
— The Age
